Real Vs. Fake - What Christmas Tree is Better For The Environment?

Dec 20, 2022

The Real vs. Fake Christmas Tree Debate: What’s Better For The Environment?

Every year, the debate over whether to buy a real or fake Christmas tree is raised. But what if the decision was based on more than just personal preference? We will evaluate the environmental impacts of both types of trees and provide you with the information you need to make an educated choice for this holiday season.

Real Trees vs Fake Trees - Pros and Cons

Real Trees

Real trees are grown on farms specifically for this purpose, so they are renewable resources that can be replanted every year. Plus, when you purchase a real tree, you are supporting local farmers who rely on this industry as their livelihood. But real trees also have some drawbacks; they require water in order to stay alive and they tend to shed needles which can be a hassle to clean up after the holidays.

Fake Trees

Fake trees may seem like an eco-friendly option because they last much longer than real trees, but there are some potential environmental downsides associated with these artificial alternatives as well. Fake trees are made from petroleum-based plastic and non-biodegradable metals, so they are not recyclable at the end of their lifespans. Also, many fake trees contain PVC which is known to release toxins into the air when heated or burned, making them potentially hazardous to indoor air quality in your home during use or disposal.

The Right Choice For You

Ultimately, whether or not you choose a real or fake tree comes down to personal preference and ethics. If you want a more traditional holiday experience that supports local farmers and is easier on your wallet (real trees are usually cheaper), then go for it! However, if you don’t mind spending a bit extra money and would rather avoid dealing with all of the needles at the end of your holiday season, then opting for a fake tree might be better for you. Whichever way you decide to go this year, make sure that whichever type of tree you choose ends up being recycled properly when its life is done!

Comparing Real and Fake Christmas Trees for the Environment

Making an environmentally conscious decision about which type of Christmas tree to purchase isn't always easy - especially since both options come with pros and cons! When deciding between a real or fake tree this holiday season, we recommend considering factors such as cost-effectiveness, sustainability, and convenience before making your final decision.

Ultimately though it's up to each individual consumer's preferences and ethics; what works best for one person may not necessarily work best for another! So no matter what type of tree you choose this season (real or fake!), just make sure that it gets recycled properly once its life has come to an end! Happy Holidays!
